Five Expectations for Google’s Upcoming August 13 Event 2024

Google is set to reveal the Pixel 9 series at their upcoming event on August 13. This time, instead of the usual two devices, there might be three: the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro XL. The XL model could replace the previous Pro version, while the new Pixel 9 Pro is expected to be more compact, similar in size to the Pixel 9. Additionally, Google has confirmed that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the next-gen foldable phone, will be available in India.

Here are 5 things we expect to see at the Made by Google event scheduled to take place next week.

Pixel 9 series

The Pixel 9 series is set to launch on August 13, and based on previous leaks, most details about the phones are already known. The new series will be powered by Google’s Tensor G4 chipset and will feature a redesigned, pill-shaped camera island that doesn’t extend across the entire back of the phone.

Google is also expected to introduce its latest foldable phone, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This second-generation foldable is rumored to have a square-shaped, double-layered pill camera island with significant improvements in software, camera quality, and hardware. It’s still uncertain whether the foldable will be launched alongside the Pixel 9 series or a bit later.

Android 15 Public Release

In addition to the Pixel 9 series, Google may also unveil Android 15, the latest version of its popular mobile operating system. This update is expected to introduce new features, including AI-powered tools and enhanced privacy and security options.

At Google I/O, they previewed features like “Theft Detection Lock,” which lets you quickly lock your phone if it’s stolen, and “Private Space,” for securing apps with sensitive data. Android 15 will also help manage storage by automatically archiving unused apps and includes a new AI-driven scam detection tool to protect against fraud.

New AI features

Earlier this year, Google confirmed that older features like “Circle to Search” would be available on more devices. They’re also expected to introduce new AI-driven features such as “Add Me,” which allows you to add people to group photos, and “Pixel Screenshots,” similar to Microsoft’s “Windows Recall,” making your phone activities searchable.

Additionally, Google may unveil features not yet leaked and announce improvements to Gemini, their AI chatbot similar to ChatGPT.

Pixel Buds Pro 2

It’s been over two years since Google launched the original Pixel Buds Pro. While the initial reviews were lukewarm, several updates have since turned them into a great value-for-money option. Now, according to a report, Google is preparing to release the Pixel Buds Pro 2 in four colors: Charcoal, Porcelain, Aloe, and Hot Pink. The new model may feature design tweaks, including a more prominent grill for Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and transparency modes. The slightly bulkier case suggests a bigger battery, although it’s unclear if there will be audio quality improvements.

Pixel Watch 3

The original Pixel Watch and last year’s Pixel Watch 2 are pretty good WearOS-powered wearables, but they didn’t make it to India. But Google might change its plans and launch the Pixel Watch 3 in here. Once again, Google is yet to officially unveil its upcoming smartwatch, but previous leaks and rumours suggest that the Pixel Watch 3 will look similar to its predecessors but come with some redesigned elements.

The Pixel Watch 3 is also said to come in two wrist sizes – 41mm and 45mm to cater to a larger audience and are said to boast a 2,000 nits bright OLED screen along with thinner bezels and a bigger battery that might finally help these smartwatches hit the 24 hour mark.
